Service for Sunday 3/29/20

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.

But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
–Matthew 14:22-33

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease,

for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is Your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“Therefore I have hope in Him.”
–Lamentations 3:22-24

Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.
–Matthew 10:29-31

You call me out upon the waters,

The great unknown where feet may fail.
And there I find You in the mystery;
In oceans deep my faith will stand.

I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves.
When oceans rise,
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine.

–Oceans: words and music by Joel Houston, Matt Crocker, and Salomon Lighthelm.

Message for Sunday 3/22/20

Statement on Coronavirus

The worldwide events of the past two weeks concerning the COVID-19 (Corona) virus has been extremely difficult for all of us.  The “curve”, as the number of cases is called, can grow rapidly and will as more people are tested.  After much prayer, research and the seeking of legal and medical advice, the leadership of Haran Baptist have come to a difficult decision:

Haran Baptist Church will be closed with no activities taking place until further notice.  Please know this was not an easy decision especially after the service of praise and uplifting we experienced this past Sunday.

We feel it is necessary to have the best interest of the congregation’s health in mind as well as adhering and respecting the voices of the President of the United States and the Governor of Virginia.  The decision they made came after much consultation and medical advice and these men were elected to protect the citizens of the United States and Virginia, respectively.  We feel as a Christian body we are to respect our government leadership (as long as it doesn’t contradict scripture) and make every effort to co-operate with them in the best interest of the people (Romans 13:1-5).

When it can be arranged the pastor will have a video ready for this Sunday and he will do his best to continue the study of the Book of Revelation by sending you copies of the study by email.

Also and equally important; if you need the pastor, he will be at your door as soon as possible.  He will not be making visits unless you request it but know he is more than willing to come to your home or someplace at your convenience.

We realize that you will want to continue your normal giving as the church expenses are ongoing.  You can do this by mail to 7539 Old Bent Mountain Road, Roanoke, VA 24018, or even drop it by the church but call first at (540) 774-8986 to be sure someone is there.  Or click here to give online using your credit or debit card.

PLEASE be in prayer for our nation, those affected by COVID-19, and Haran Baptist!

Thank you for your understanding, your love for the Lord and your love for Haran Baptist Church.

If you have questions, concerns or need help please call the church at (540) 774-8986.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
