THIS WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
Women on Mission
Doing missions together is a beautiful and fun discipleship tool for head, heart, and hands. Your faith expands tremendously when you step out of your comfort zone and see firsthand the miracle of participating with God in His redemptive work.
Do you want to raise awareness and funds for our annual mission offerings? Do you want to help our local Roanoke Valley Baptist Mission Centers? Do you want to help our college students here at Haran Baptist remain faithful to the Word? Do you want to see millions of children come to Christ through Operation Christmas Child? Whichever way you decide, Women on Mission provides a way for you to support missions through giving. We invite you to come and find out about us on Sunday, September 22 following the worship service.
We will have a called business meeting on Sunday, September 29 to vote on the 2019-2020 church officers and committees.
Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it (1 Corinthians 12:27). When you give to the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions, you are equipping those who seek to share with others how God has set them free to live and serve. This annual offering was named for Alma Hunt (1909-2008), a native Virginian who was known worldwide for her missions service and her unswerving dedication to the cause of Christ. Envelopes for this offering are in the pew racks.
Operation Christmas Child
We got off to a great start this year with our VBS kids filling 24 shoebox gifts! These boxes will go to children in another country who may have never received a Christmas gift before. Now it’s your opportunity to join in! Pick up a box from the foyer outside the office, fill it with gifts, and be a part of spreading Good News, Great Joy. See the September newsletter for complete details. The deadline to return boxes to the church is Sunday, November 3.
All kids are invited to join us on Wednesday nights! Each week we study a Bible lesson, work on music together, and end with a music game. This fall we’re exploring the scripture behind some of our favorite Christmas carols. Haran Kids meets on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. in the music room.
A/V Help Needed
We’re looking for more audio/visual operators for our Sunday services. If you’re interested in helping, please see Anna Ruth. We’d be glad for you to sit in on a service and see what’s involved.
Do you buy from Amazon? Use Amazon Smile! Each time you make a purchase through Amazon Smile, the church will receive a donation. Amazon says: Amazon Smile is a simple and automatic way for you to support your favorite charitable organization every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your favorite charitable organization.–
Books for BookNet
BookNet is a ministry of the Roanoke Valley Baptist Association. On mission trips, RVBA volunteers have the opportunity to go into schools, read to children, and allow them to pick out books to keep. We are collecting new and gently-used children’s books for preschool through 7th grade. If you have questions, Bette Yeatts would be glad to help you.
